Angiosperms (flowers) are also known by common names Angiospermae or Magnoliophyta are seed-bearing vascular flowering plants. There are around 450 families comprising trees, herbs, submerged aquatics, bulbs and epiphytes and largest flower families like Orchids, Compositae (Daisies) and Legumes (Beans) classified under Angiosperms. These families include around 15000 genera and 350000 species. Based on their seeds architecture Angiosperms are classified in to two groups Monocots and Dicots. Once flower seed coat splits  in to two pieces from the middle and it has Single embryonic leave inside then it is Monocot or if it has Two embryonic leaves, it is Dicot. Its very hard to find seeds of beautiful flowers and rare to split them and see the leave inside.

Without getting in to botanical classification, there is another method to group the flowers based on their life cycle, this method has three groups – Annuals, Biennials and Perennials. Annual flower plants live for a season, Biennial complete their life cycle in two years while Perennials live for more than two years. There is no logical method to know the group of a flower plant, unless that is grown to test the life span or taking the advantage from others experiences.

Annuals – Plants that complete their entire life cycle from seed > bloom > seed within a single growing season are known as annual flowering plants. Plant’s roots, stems and leaves die annually, only the seeds are preserved to grow them in next season.

Biennials – Plants that complete their entire life cycle from seed > bloom > seed in two seasons, in first season they prepare themselves and in the second year they bloom and complete their life cycle.

Perennials – Plants that live for many growing seasons.

Complications – A plant can behave as an annual or a perennial depending on climatic and geographic conditions, there are many bulbous plants who die after a season but their bulbs remain alive to grow in next season.
