What is indoor plant?

plant kept inside the house

Indoor plant is a live plant which is grown inside the house, it is common perception that plants need Sun light to survive which is true at large extent but needs classification of Sun light in reference to a plant requirement for photosynthesis, as not all the plants need full sun light. For gardening sun light can be classified in to following three types:

1. Sun light : direct Sun light without any filter or shade, indoor example is sunny window.
2. Bright light : indirect Sun light with filter or shade, indoor example is window without Sun exposure.
3. Low light : direct or filtered both types of light doesn’t reach, indoor example is a distant place from the window.

Nature has amazing diversity and there are several thousand plants which do good in above three types of light conditions, need to pick the plants which suit to a particular house or placement requirement. Some of other relevant points apart from light are ventilation, moisture, soil mixture, temperature, humidity, fertilizers, potting, and pest control. Either it is required to pick the hardy indoor plants which are less bothered about these or try learning a bit about these environmental supplements.

Bringing plants inside the house started in the 15th century when sea-farers began to bring plants home from their voyages. They were kept indoors to help them survive in different environmental varriables. Most of the houseplants originate in tropical climates, like a palm tree or a fern, cacti and succulents come from savannahs in the deserts. Indoor plants can be divided into three different groups:

1. Flowering plants
2. Foliage plants
3. Succulents

Considering pollution inside the house, indoor plants are not any more a luxurious commodity, these are become necessity for the modern sealed houses. Apart from aesthetic, indoor plants are indispensable for a number of scientific reasons such as, these plants help regulate humidity levels, clean several types of air contaminants, absorbs airborne bacterias, molds and add fresh oxygen to the surroundings. Bring nature home with indoors plants. There are houseplants in all sorts, shapes and sizes – some loved for their flowers, others for their elegant foliage and most for their fairly low maintenance and air purification.
